Judge Stops Obama’s Executive Order

President Barack Obama’s executive order, which would have given relief to up to 4.7 million illegal immigrants, took a step back on late Monday, February 16, 2015.  U.S. District Court Judge, Andrew Hanen, granted a preliminary injunction brought by representatives of 26 states.  The ruling is not on the merits of the executive order.  It simply prevents enforcement of the order until further litigation takes place.  Obama’s Administration stated that they will appeal the ruling.

What This Means To You

If you are an illegal immigrant with children in the United States, and you were seeking deportation relief under Obama’s executive order, then you will not be eligible for relief while this injunction is in place.  This is a highly contested issue and the battle is far from over.  You should wait for the courts to resolve the legality of Obama’s executive order and then contact an experienced immigration attorney that can explain your options.
